Rick is the founder and director of Grants Spectrum Australia. He has more than 20 years experience in successfully securing government grants and tax concessions for Australian businesses.
Rick specialises in advising small, medium and large companies as to how they can maximise the benefits available to them within the R&D Tax Concession, the Export Markets Development grant scheme and other government grants.

With over 10 years experience at Board level in both large and small organisations, Rick is able to bring a strategic perspective to the review of his clients’ operations and the advice that he provides.
Rick has a wealth of experience across a broad range of roles and industries, enabling him to offer valuable insights to the businesses with which he consults. He has held management positions in a number of Australia’s largest accountancy firms and has experience in diverse areas of business including internal audit, accounting, quality assurance and customer service. He has also managed research projects within industries that ranged from light and heavy engineering to social welfare organisations.
Rick’s formal qualifications include a degree in Business with a double major in Accounting and Management. He has also completed a Masters in Professional Accounting from Macquarie University and the Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) qualification through Deakin University. He has also since completed the Australian Institute of Company Director’s postgraduate qualification

Heymala has over 25 years experience in accounting and corporate governance. In her accounting roles, Heymala has worked in roles ranging from professional firms in auditing and receivership, through to commercial roles where she was responsible for management, financial and statutory reporting. Heymala has led process improvement projects and worked on teams integrating and implementing significant IT upgrades. In her corporate governance roles, Heymala has been responsible for writing and reviewing board and committee charters, policy and procedure manuals for companies ranging from start ups to multinationals. Since 2004, Heymala has also been an adjudicator for the corporate governance section of the Australasian Reporting Awards. Heymala’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of New South Wales and a Certified Practicing Accountant qualification through Deakin University. She has also completed the graduate diploma in Company Secretarial Practice through Chartered Secretaries Australia.

Dr Terry Freund
Terry, until August 2002, was the Deputy State Manager NSW, AusIndustry and since then, as a consultant, has successfully assisted companies to access RD Tax concession benefits and R&D grants.He has extensive experience and expertise on all facets of the administration and management of the R&D Tax Concession program since its introduction in 1986 and has an in depth understanding of the R&D Tax concession legislation.
Terry possesses a wide knowledge and understanding of technology and what is R&D and is able to assist your company to identify and document its R&D activities. Terry has over 30 years in R&D grants administration and, as a consultant, has a very good track record in assisting companies to obtain R&D grants.
He fully understands what must be done to properly address merit criteria and position an application proposal so that it will be successful.
Another of his strengths is an extensive knowledge of current government industry, innovation and climate change policy.Terry’s skills and experience complement that of the other members of GSA and his qualifications include a PhD in physics and successfully completing patent attorney exams.
John has over 25 years experience managing information technology, business systems (SAP Enterprise resource planning system), warehousing and delivery management. He is experienced in the 6Sigma methodology and has extensive experience in project management, sales and customer service, planning and scheduling, international freight, production and quality management. John is experienced in managing projects and operations within a multinational company, working with people from different countries and cultures.
John’s qualifications include a Graduate Diploma in Computing and a Diploma in Corporate Management. John is currently studying for a Bachelor of Design from the University of Technology, Sydney.
